1. MushRocks Magic Truffles — 15 grams

MushRocks is McSmart’s presentation of fresh Psilocybe galindoi sclerotia — fifteen grams, vacuum-sealed. Unlike most strain names in this category, this one refers to a genuine, formally described species.

Psilocybe galindoi was described by the Mexican mycologist Gastón Guzmán in 1978 from specimens collected in Mexico. Guzmán described more Psilocybe species than anyone before or since, and a large part of what is known about the genus rests on his work.

In cultivation the species has a consistent reputation: structured, geometric closed-eye visuals and a philosophical, inward-facing headspace — more organised than the chaos of a high-potency strain. That places MushRocks as a mid-range option and the logical step up from Tampanensis.

Legal status: Sclerotia are legal to buy, sell and possess in the Netherlands. When Dutch lawmakers banned psilocybin mushrooms in 2008 the prohibition was drawn along a botanical line: it named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia, the underground nutrient reserves of the mycelium, fell outside that list. Almost no other country makes that distinction, and carrying truffles across a border is a separate matter from buying them here. Check your own law.

3. Strain names

This is worth explaining once properly, because it affects how you read every truffle listing in this shop and everyone else’s:

What you seeWhat it means
A formally described species — Psilocybe galindoi, P. tampanensis, P. mexicanaAn accepted taxon with a published description, a type specimen and an entry in the mycological indexes. These names mean something specific.
A commercial strain name — Dragon’s Dynamite, Pink Paradise, MushRocks, High HawaiiansA brand for a cultivated lineage. Useful for knowing what you are buying again; not a taxonomic claim.
A pseudo-binomial — names that look Latin but appear in no indexThe awkward middle case. They look like species names and are not. Where we know a name falls into this category, we say so on the page.

3.1 Why it matters practically

  • Potency data does not transfer between them. A figure published for one species tells you nothing reliable about a cultivar sold under an invented name.
  • Neither does storage or handling research.
  • Consistency comes from the grower, not the name. With a cultivated lineage, what you can actually rely on is that the same supplier grew it the same way.
  • MushRocks is on the honest side of this line. Psilocybe galindoi is a real species and the brand name sits on top of it rather than in place of it.

The reported character is worth taking at face value: users consistently describe geometric, architecturally organised visuals rather than the sprawling intensity of stronger strains, alongside a reflective headspace.

4. Preparation and use

4.1 Getting it right

  1. Scales, not eyes. Weigh the amount, seal and refrigerate the remainder immediately.
  2. Light food two to three hours ahead. The middle ground between a full stomach and an empty one.
  3. Chew it properly or brew it. Fifteen minutes in hot — never boiling — water is the standard alternative.
  4. Ninety minutes before any further decision. Onset is 30 to 60 minutes and it can run longer than that.
  5. No plans afterwards. Four to six hours, plus the tail.

4.2 Setting

  • Have a sober sitter present. Someone who stays sober, stays in the room and knows what you have taken.
  • Sit or lie down before you start. Do not stand, walk or handle anything.
  • Clear the space. No open flames, no stairs, nothing breakable within reach.
  • Have a trip stopper to hand. Knowing it is there matters even if you never use it.
  • Nothing else alongside it. No alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance.

4.3 Cautions

  • 18+ only.
  • Avoid entirely during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Avoid entirely if psychosis, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder appear in your history or your family’s. Predisposed people can have episodes precipitated by psychedelics, and no dose is low enough to make that safe.
  • Do not combine with antidepressants, MAOIs or lithium without medical advice; the lithium combination is associated with seizures and other serious events.
  • Do not take it with alcohol, cannabis or anything else.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery afterwards.
  • Some nausea early on is usual; eat lightly beforehand rather than fasting.
  • Keep refrigerated, sealed, and away from children and pets.

A strain name tells you who grew it. A species name tells you what it is. Rather more listings blur the two than ought to.

  • Fifteen grams of fresh Psilocybe galindoi sclerotia — a genuine, formally described species.
  • Described by Gastón Guzmán in 1978, the mycologist behind most of what is known about the genus.
  • Mid-range strength. Structured, geometric visuals and a reflective headspace.
  • The logical step up from Tampanensis, and short of the high-potency strains.
  • Onset 30 to 60 minutes; around 4 to 6 hours of effects.
  • Legal in the Netherlands as sclerotia. Keep refrigerated and sealed. 18+ only.
  • Order before 16:00 on weekdays for same-day dispatch in plain, unmarked packaging.
Is a strain name a species name?
Often not. Many truffle strains are sold under commercial names that do not appear in mycological databases — they describe a cultivated lineage, not an accepted taxon.
What is the difference between psilocybin and psilocin?
Psilocybin is a prodrug: enzymes in the body dephosphorylate it into psilocin, which is what acts on serotonin receptors. Both are present in fresh sclerotia.
How long does it last?
Around four to six hours for the main effects, with a lighter tail afterwards. Onset is commonly 30 to 60 minutes.
Do I have to chew them?
Thorough chewing helps absorption, but a tea works too — steep for fifteen minutes in hot water that is off the boil. Boiling degrades psilocybin.
Why do they need refrigerating?
They are fresh, not dried, and psilocin degrades with heat, light and oxygen. Sealed and cold is how they keep.
Why are truffles legal in the Netherlands when mushrooms are not?
The 2008 ban named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia grow underground and fell outside that list. Almost no other country draws the same line.
