1. Atlantis Magic Truffles — 15 grams
Fifteen grams of fresh Atlantis sclerotia, sold under the name Psilocybe atlantis. This is the mid-strength option in our truffle range and the one most first-time buyers choose: clear visuals, a headspace that stays navigable, and a genuine psychedelic experience rather than a hint of one.
Like every truffle, these are sclerotia rather than mushrooms — dense underground nutrient stores the fungus builds as a survival reserve. That compact structure is why they hold their alkaloid content better than fragile above-ground tissue. Each pack is vacuum-sealed fresh, grown in controlled conditions here in the Netherlands.
One honest note before you buy: fresh sclerotia taste earthy, sour and faintly metallic. Very few people enjoy the flavour, and that is not something a product page should pretend otherwise about.
Legal status: Sclerotia are legal to buy, sell and possess in the Netherlands. When Dutch lawmakers banned psilocybin mushrooms in 2008 the prohibition was drawn along a botanical line: it named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia, the underground nutrient reserves of the mycelium, fell outside that list. Almost no other country makes that distinction, and carrying truffles across a border is a separate matter from buying them here. Check your own law.

3. Sclerotia
The word truffle is a market convention rather than a botanical description, and understanding what these actually are explains most of their practical properties:
- They are sclerotia: hardened, compacted masses of mycelium the fungus forms underground when conditions turn against it — drought, cold, a substrate running out.
- They are a survival store, not a reproductive structure. A mushroom exists to spread spores; a sclerotium exists to wait out a bad season.
- Which is why they keep better. The dense, low-moisture matrix slows oxidation of the alkaloids in a way that soft above-ground tissue cannot.
- And why they are legally distinct in the Netherlands. The 2008 ban named fruiting bodies. Sclerotia grow below the soil and fell outside it.
- They are not culinary truffles either. No relation to Tuber; the shared name is an accident of appearance.
3.1 How it works in the body
Once eaten, psilocybin is dephosphorylated into psilocin, which binds serotonin receptors and produces the shifts in perception and thought that follow. That conversion step is why onset takes half an hour or more rather than arriving immediately, and it is the reason the ninety-minute rule in section 4 exists.
Atlantis sits deliberately in the middle of the range: strong enough for a real experience, mild enough that you stay oriented throughout. That combination is why it is the strain we point first-timers towards.
4. Preparation and use
4.1 Getting it right
- Weigh the dose on a 0.1 g scale and put the rest of the pack back in the fridge before you start.
- Eat something small a couple of hours earlier. Not a heavy meal, not an empty stomach.
- Chew slowly and thoroughly. Sclerotia are tough, and half-chewed material absorbs unevenly. A lemon or a strong juice makes it easier to get down.
- Set a timer for ninety minutes and do not consider more until it goes off. That is the rule that prevents most bad evenings.
- Have the day clear — four to six hours of effects and an evening you will not want scheduled.
4.2 Setting
- Someone stays sober and stays with you. They need to know what you took and roughly how much.
- Be seated or lying down before the first effects. Postural control is not reliable.
- Make the space safe first. No flames, no sharp or breakable objects, no stairs, no open windows.
- Keep a trip stopper to hand. Most are never opened; having one still helps.
- Nothing combined with it. No alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance, prescribed or otherwise.
4.3 Cautions
- Over 18s only.
- Not in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Not for anyone with a personal or close family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious psychiatric condition. Psychedelics can trigger episodes in people who are already predisposed — this is the caution that matters most on the page.
- Not alongside SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium without talking to a doctor. Lithium and psychedelics together have been linked to seizures.
- Nothing else in the mix: no alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance.
- No driving and no machinery for the rest of the day.
- Nausea in the first hour is normal. Something light a few hours beforehand helps.
- Fridge, sealed, away from children and pets.
A mushroom exists to spread spores. A sclerotium exists to survive a bad season — and that structural difference is why truffles keep better and sit outside the Dutch ban.
