1. Happy Tea — Back to Life — Magic Truffles

Back to Life is the recovery blend in the Happy Tea range: black Assam tea with berries, aimed squarely at the morning after a night that ran long. It is sold as a companion to Happy Tea Truffles, which come separately in 4-gram packs.

The Assam base carries natural caffeine, which is the practical half of what makes this a recovery blend rather than a bedtime one. The berries do the flavour work.

One thing we want to be straight about, because the source copy for this range is not: adding psilocybin truffles to a tea does not make it hangover-free, and it is not a substitute for alcohol in the sense of being consequence-free. Section 3 sets out what the “alternative to alcohol” framing does and does not mean.

3. Alcohol alternative

Happy Tea is marketed as an alternative to alcohol. There is something real in that and something that gets overstated, and both belong on the page:

• What is real: a light truffle dose does not produce the acetaldehyde and dehydration cycle that gives you an alcohol hangover. If you swap a night of drinking for a light tea, you will feel better the next morning. That much is fair.
• What is overstated: “no hangover” is not the same as “no effect the next day”. Psilocybin is genuinely tiring, and a session finishing late still costs you sleep.
• What is different in kind: alcohol and psilocybin are not comparable substances with different side effects. One is a depressant, the other a serotonergic psychedelic. Treating one as a like-for-like replacement for the other is how people misjudge a first experience.
• What still applies: the psychiatric-history and medication cautions in section 4 apply to a light dose in a tea exactly as they do to a full one. Dilution does not change who should avoid it.
• What is genuinely nice about it: a hot drink is a much easier way to take truffles than chewing them, and four grams shared is a modest, sociable amount. That is a real advantage and it does not need overselling.

3.1 The blend itself

Black Assam is a strong, malty tea with a decent caffeine content — roughly comparable to any robust breakfast tea. The berry component is there for flavour and it makes the truffle taste, which is earthy and sour, considerably easier to get past. Of the Happy Tea blends this is the one to reach for when you want something restorative rather than something delicate.

4. Using it with truffles

4.1 How it works

1. Grind the truffles. A 4-gram pack of Happy Tea Truffles is sold separately and is designed for this.
2. Add them to the tea bag, or steep them loose alongside it.
3. Steep in hot water that is off the boil. Boiling water degrades psilocybin, so let the kettle stand for a minute first.
4. Four grams alone is a light, sociable buzz. Shared between two people it is lighter still.
5. Drink it and wait. Onset through a tea is generally 30 to 60 minutes.

4.2 Cautions

• Not for anyone under 18.
• Not during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Do not use if you or a close family member has a history of psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious psychiatric condition.
• Do not combine with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium without medical advice.
• Do not combine with alcohol, medication or other substances.
• Do not use if you have high or low blood pressure, heart or lung problems, or diabetes.
• Do not drive or operate machinery afterwards.
• Use in a familiar, comfortable setting with someone you trust.
• Store truffles refrigerated at 2 °C to 4 °C, out of reach of children.

A light dose does not give you an alcohol hangover. It also is not a like-for-like swap for a drink — the two are different substances doing different things.
