Psilocybe Amazonia Truffles by Royal Magic: twenty-five grams of fresh sclerotia, sold with an Amazonian association and described as producing a deep, grounded experience rather than a frenetic one.

The Amazon claim deserves examining rather than repeating, and section 3 does that — not to undermine the product, which is a perfectly good 25-gram pack, but because the geography does not work the way the name implies.

As with every large pack of a strong-ish strain: the pack is a supply, not a serving.

3. The Amazon claim

Here is the difficulty, stated plainly:

1. Sclerotia are formed by a small number of Psilocybe species. The commercially grown ones are principally tampanensis, mexicana and galindoi — two of which are Mesoamerican and one Floridian. None is Amazonian.
2. Amazonian Psilocybe species do exist, and the region has genuine psychoactive plant traditions. But those traditions centre on ayahuasca — a Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis preparation containing DMT and beta-carbolines — rather than on psilocybin sclerotia.
3. So “Amazonia” is almost certainly a trade name rather than a statement of origin, in the same way that most strain names in this category are.
4. Which is not a reason not to buy it. The product is fresh sclerotia of a cultivated lineage, exactly like everything else on this shelf. It is a reason not to read the name as botany.

3.1 On “grounded”

That part of the description is more useful than the geography. Strains do get consistently described in different terms — some as visual, some as energetic, some as settled and body-centred — and “grounded” belongs to the last group. Whether that reflects alkaloid balance or accumulated expectation is not established, but the reporting is stable enough to be a reasonable guide to what to expect.

For a large pack, a grounded rather than a frenetic profile is arguably the better choice: it is easier to come back to.

4. Preparation and use

4.1 Getting it right

• Measure it. A 0.1 g scale, every time. Sclerotia sizes vary and estimating is how people double a dose by accident.
• Something light beforehand, two or three hours ahead.
• Thorough chewing or a fifteen-minute steep in hot water. Boiling water degrades psilocybin, so keep it off the boil.
• Ninety minutes minimum before more. Non-negotiable.
• Nothing in the diary for the next six hours or the evening after.

4.2 Setting

• Have someone sober present for the whole thing. Not reachable by phone — present.
• Be seated or lying down when it starts. Standing is where accidents come from.
• Tidy the room before, not during. Flames, breakables, stairs and open windows all out of the way.
• A trip stopper within reach is worth having even unused.
• Nothing combined with it. No drink, no cannabis, no medication you have not cleared.

4.3 Cautions

• Strictly over 18.
• Not while pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Not for anyone whose own or close family history includes psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious psychiatric condition. Psychedelics can precipitate episodes in people predisposed to them, whatever the amount taken.
• Not with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium unless a doctor has said otherwise; the lithium combination has been linked to seizures.
• Nothing alongside it — no alcohol, no cannabis, nothing else.
• No driving, no machinery, for the remainder of the day.
• Early nausea is normal. Eat something light a few hours beforehand.
• Refrigerated, sealed, and well away from children and pets.

Sclerotia come from a handful of species, none of them Amazonian. The Amazon’s own tradition is ayahuasca, which is a different preparation entirely.
