1. Double Vision Truffles — 25 gram

Double Vision Truffles by Royal Magic: twenty-five grams of fresh sclerotia from the stronger end of the range, selected specifically for visual intensity. The name is a fair description of what it is sold for.

It is a large pack of a strong strain, which is a combination that needs planning rather than enthusiasm. Weigh each amount and reseal the rest before you start.

Since this one is bought for the visuals, section 3 describes what psilocybin visuals actually are — which is less like the films than most people expect.

Legal status: Sclerotia are legal to buy, sell and possess in the Netherlands. When Dutch lawmakers banned psilocybin mushrooms in 2008 the prohibition was drawn along a botanical line: it named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia, the underground nutrient reserves of the mycelium, fell outside that list. Almost no other country makes that distinction, and carrying truffles across a border is a separate matter from buying them here. Check your own law.

3. Visuals

“Hallucination” sets the wrong expectation. What psilocybin produces is better described as visual distortion, and it comes in recognisable kinds:

KindWhat it actually is
EnhancementColours more saturated, edges sharper, contrast heightened. The commonest effect and the one that arrives first.
MovementStatic surfaces appearing to breathe, flow or drift. Patterned surfaces — carpets, wood grain, foliage — do this most obviously.
GeometryRepeating fractal or lattice patterns overlaid on what you are looking at, or behind closed eyes. This is the effect most people mean by psychedelic visuals.
Closed-eye visualsOften more elaborate than open-eye. Full scenes and structures at stronger doses. Darkness and closed eyes are where the visual side of a session mostly lives.
Not usuallySeeing things that are not there and believing they are. True hallucination in that sense is uncommon with psilocybin, and people generally remain aware that what they are seeing is an effect.

3.1 Getting more from the visual side

  • Control the light. Dim, warm light does far more than a bright room. Candles, if the room is safe for them and somebody sober is present.
  • Have something patterned to look at, or something in nature. Blank white walls are the least rewarding surface there is.
  • Close your eyes for stretches. The closed-eye component is where the elaborate material usually is, and people forget to look.
  • Music matters more than you expect. Chosen in advance, without lyrics if you want the visual side to dominate.
  • Do not chase it with more. This is the mistake a visually-marketed strain invites. Give it ninety minutes before any second thought.

4. Preparation and use

4.1 Getting it right

  1. Scales, not eyes. Weigh the amount, seal and refrigerate the remainder immediately.
  2. Light food two to three hours ahead. The middle ground between a full stomach and an empty one.
  3. Chew it properly or brew it. Fifteen minutes in hot — never boiling — water is the standard alternative.
  4. Ninety minutes before any further decision. Onset is 30 to 60 minutes and it can run longer than that.
  5. No plans afterwards. Four to six hours, plus the tail.

4.2 Setting

  • One sober person stays in the room with you. They know what you took and roughly when.
  • Sit or lie down before it begins, not after.
  • Clear the space first: no flames, no glass, no stairs, nothing sharp within reach.
  • Trip stopper nearby, even if it stays unopened. Most do.
  • Nothing else taken with it, including alcohol and cannabis.

4.3 Cautions

  • 18+ only.
  • Avoid entirely during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Avoid entirely if psychosis, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder appear in your history or your family’s. Predisposed people can have episodes precipitated by psychedelics, and no dose is low enough to make that safe.
  • Do not combine with antidepressants, MAOIs or lithium without medical advice; the lithium combination is associated with seizures and other serious events.
  • Do not take it with alcohol, cannabis or anything else.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery afterwards.
  • Some nausea early on is usual; eat lightly beforehand rather than fasting.
  • Keep refrigerated, sealed, and away from children and pets.

Psilocybin visuals are distortion rather than hallucination — colour, movement and geometry, mostly behind closed eyes. People generally know what they are seeing is an effect.

  • Psilocybin visuals are enhancement, movement and geometry rather than true hallucination.

How long does it last?
Around four to six hours for the main effects, with a lighter tail afterwards. Onset is commonly 30 to 60 minutes.
What if I take too much?
Sit down somewhere quiet with your sitter, breathe slowly, and remember it is temporary. A trip stopper helps. If someone is in genuine physical distress, call emergency services.
What is the difference between psilocybin and psilocin?
Psilocybin is a prodrug: enzymes in the body dephosphorylate it into psilocin, which is what acts on serotonin receptors. Both are present in fresh sclerotia.
Is a strain name a species name?
Often not. Many truffle strains are sold under commercial names that do not appear in mycological databases — they describe a cultivated lineage, not an accepted taxon.
Why do they need refrigerating?
They are fresh, not dried, and psilocin degrades with heat, light and oxygen. Sealed and cold is how they keep.
Why are truffles legal in the Netherlands when mushrooms are not?
The 2008 ban named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia grow underground and fell outside that list. Almost no other country draws the same line.
