1. Thai ‘Psilocybe Cubensis’ Spores Spray
A culture ampoule of the Thai (Koh Samui) strain, with a sterile syringe included. Inside is living mycelium rather than spores, ready to be injected straight into a prepared substrate.
The Thai strain is a Koh Samui landrace — a wild-adapted population from the island rather than a laboratory selection. What it adapted to was heat, which makes it the strain to work with if you cannot hold a room in the low twenties.
The culture is a well-known cultivated strain and that is what you are buying.
Legal status: The legal position: cultures and spores carry no psilocybin and are legal to sell in the Netherlands. Cultivation of psilocybin mushrooms is another matter and is illegal across much of Europe, including Germany and the UK, with some jurisdictions restricting spores too. Check your own law before ordering.

3. Working warm
This is the one strain on the shelf whose name is accurate on the packet, and its practical advantage is temperature. Colonisation from a culture wants 24 to 27 °C here, which is warmer than most cubensis, and that changes how you manage the process:
- Warm speeds colonisation, which is a defence against contamination as much as a convenience — the sooner the mycelium claims the substrate, the less chance a mould has.
- But warm also suits bacteria. Above about 28 °C the balance tips against you regardless of strain, so warmer is not simply better.
- Measure rather than estimate. A digital thermometer next to the container is the single most useful piece of equipment in this whole process.
- Stability beats the ideal number. A steady 24 °C beats a room that swings between 20 and 28 across the day.
- Off the floor, away from outside walls. Both run several degrees below the middle of a room.
If you are inoculating in a Dutch winter, this strain plus a modest heat source beside — never under — the container is a workable combination.
4. Inoculating your substrate
- Clean everything first. Hands washed to the wrist, the outside of the ampoule wiped with alcohol, the surface wiped down, no draught in the room.
- Unpack the syringe without contaminating it. The needle must not touch skin, table or air currents from a fan or open window.
- Load it from the ampoule in one steady movement.
- Inoculate at several points rather than a single large injection — multiple small sites colonise faster and more evenly.
- Then leave it alone, sealed, dark and at temperature, until colonisation is complete.
4.1 What success and failure look like
- Success: white growth spreading outward from each injection point within one to two weeks, eventually joining into a solid white block.
- Failure: any green, grey or blue-green colour. That is mould, the batch is lost, and no amount of cutting it out will save it.
- Also failure: a sour or ammonia smell, which means bacteria have taken the substrate.
- Do not open it to check. Every opening is another chance for a contaminant to get in. Look through the container.
Warm speeds colonisation and warm suits bacteria. The window is 24 to 27 degrees, and above 28 the balance tips against you.
