Sacred Spirit Truffles (Psilocybe Cambodia) – 15 gram

1. Sacred Spirit Truffles (Psilocybe Cambodia) — 15 gram

Sacred Spirit is a 15-gram pack of fresh sclerotia, and at €12.50 it is the lowest-priced full-size truffle pack in our range. It is sold under a name borrowed from the Cambodian mushroom strain.

“Sacred” is doing something specific in the name, and it is worth engaging with rather than skipping past, because the traditions being gestured at are real and were not recreational.

A note on the name, because it is worth being straight about. The Latin-style name on this product is a commercial designation rather than an accepted species. More than that: the mushroom strain it borrows its name from does not form sclerotia at all. Only a handful of Psilocybe species produce truffles — principally tampanensis, mexicana and galindoi — so whatever is in this pack is one of those, sold under a name borrowed from the mushroom world. We have asked the supplier to confirm which, and we will put it on this page when they do.

Legal status: Sclerotia are legal to buy, sell and possess in the Netherlands. When Dutch lawmakers banned psilocybin mushrooms in 2008 the prohibition was drawn along a botanical line: it named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia, the underground nutrient reserves of the mycelium, fell outside that list. Almost no other country makes that distinction, and carrying truffles across a border is a separate matter from buying them here. Check your own law.

3. Ceremony

A great many products in this category borrow ceremonial language. Since this one puts it in the name, here is what the actual traditions looked like:

  • They were healings, conducted for a specific person with a specific problem. Mazatec ceremonies in Oaxaca were held at night, in darkness, by a curandera or curandero, for somebody who was ill or grieving or needed an answer. Not for exploration.
  • They involved a guide who did not take a passive role. Chanting, prayer and direct attention to the person throughout. The practitioner was working, not sitting quietly.
  • They took place within a community that shared the framework. The meaning of what happened was collective and pre-existing rather than something each participant made up afterwards.
  • The plant was one part of a practice, not the practice itself. That is the part most often lost when the language gets borrowed.
  • Andean San Pedro use, West African iboga traditions and Amazonian ayahuasca practice all share that shape: a structure, a guide, a community, a purpose.

3.1 What that means for a pack from a shop

Not that you should not buy it. It means the ceremonial framing is borrowed rather than supplied, and if you want something like it you have to build it yourself: a purpose decided in advance, a setting chosen deliberately, someone present who is paying attention, and time afterwards to think about what happened rather than getting on with the evening.

That is a reasonable thing to want and it is achievable. It just does not come in the pack, and no product page should imply that it does.

4. Preparation and use

4.1 Getting it right

  • Weigh, then put the pack away. Having the rest in front of you is how a measured dose stops being one.
  • A light meal a few hours earlier takes the edge off the nausea without slowing onset much.
  • Chew it well. If the taste is the obstacle, steep it in hot water for a quarter of an hour instead.
  • Wait a full ninety minutes. Onset commonly takes 30 to 60 and sometimes longer.
  • Clear the day. Four to six hours of effects and an afterglow beyond that.

4.2 Setting

  • A sober sitter for the duration. Told in advance what you have taken and how much.
  • Down before onset, sitting or lying, not standing about.
  • Make the room safe while you still can. No fire, no glass, no stairs, no open windows.
  • Keep a trip stopper to hand. Knowing it is there does most of the work.
  • On its own and nothing else.

4.3 Cautions

  • You need to be 18 or over.
  • Not for use in pregnancy or during breastfeeding.
  • Do not use it at all if psychosis, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder run in your family or your own history. The risk of precipitating an episode does not scale down with the dose.
  • Keep it away from antidepressants, MAOIs and lithium without medical advice — the lithium combination in particular is associated with seizures.
  • One thing at a time: no alcohol, no cannabis, nothing else in the mix.
  • Nothing that needs driving or machinery for the rest of the day.
  • Some nausea in the first hour is usual rather than a warning sign.
  • Fridge, sealed, out of reach of children and pets.

The ceremonial framing is borrowed, not supplied. A purpose, a setting, someone paying attention and time afterwards — those you have to build yourself.

  • A 15-gram pack of fresh sclerotia and the lowest-priced full-size truffle pack we carry.
  • Sold under a name borrowed from the Cambodian mushroom strain — a trade name, not a species.
  • The ceremonial traditions the name gestures at were healings with a guide, a purpose and a community.
  • None of that comes in a pack. If you want a structured session you have to build the structure.
  • Onset 30 to 60 minutes; around 4 to 6 hours of effects.
  • Legal in the Netherlands as sclerotia. Refrigerate, sealed. 18+ only.
  • Order before 16:00 on weekdays for same-day dispatch in plain, unmarked packaging.
Is a strain name a species name?
Often not. Many truffle strains are sold under commercial names that do not appear in mycological databases — they describe a cultivated lineage, not an accepted taxon.
How long does it last?
Around four to six hours for the main effects, with a lighter tail afterwards. Onset is commonly 30 to 60 minutes.
What if I take too much?
Sit down somewhere quiet with your sitter, breathe slowly, and remember it is temporary. A trip stopper helps. If someone is in genuine physical distress, call emergency services.
What is the difference between psilocybin and psilocin?
Psilocybin is a prodrug: enzymes in the body dephosphorylate it into psilocin, which is what acts on serotonin receptors. Both are present in fresh sclerotia.
Why do they need refrigerating?
They are fresh, not dried, and psilocin degrades with heat, light and oxygen. Sealed and cold is how they keep.
Why are truffles legal in the Netherlands when mushrooms are not?
The 2008 ban named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia grow underground and fell outside that list. Almost no other country draws the same line.
