1. Indian Spirit Kratom — Sumatra Red, 25g / 50g
Loose Sumatra Red kratom powder from Indian Spirit, in 25-gram and 50-gram bags. Red vein from Sumatra combines the calm end of the range with the long duration Sumatran material is known for, which makes it the most emphatically evening-oriented strain we carry.
The plant is Mitragyna speciosa. Its alkaloids act at the body’s opioid receptors, and red vein material — generally the more mature leaf — sits at the settling end.
Because this is the strain most likely to be bought for the end of the day, this page spends its main section on kratom and sleep, which is a subject the trade generally avoids.
Legal status: Mitragyna speciosa is legal to sell and possess in the Netherlands. It is banned or controlled in several other countries and remains under regulatory review in the EU and the United States. Check the law where you live before ordering.

3. Kratom and sleep
Red vein kratom is widely used to wind down, and a lot of people end up using it to get to sleep. That is worth addressing honestly rather than leaving to the internet:
- Falling asleep and sleeping well are different things. Kratom at larger quantities is sedating and can make dropping off easier. That does not mean the sleep it produces is restorative.
- Substances that act at opioid receptors are generally associated with disrupted sleep architecture — less deep and REM sleep, more waking. This is well described for opioids as a class, and kratom acts at the same receptors.
- Which explains a common experience: falling asleep quickly, sleeping eight hours, and waking up flat. That is not the amount being wrong.
- And it is one of the main routes into daily use. Something taken every night is by definition taken daily, and daily is the frequency at which tolerance and dependence develop.
- If sleep is the actual problem, a magnesium and L-theanine formula, valerian, or getting the underlying issue looked at will serve you better than kratom will. We sell two of those three and would rather sell you the right one.
3.1 Using red vein without that happening
- Take it in the evening, not at bedtime. A couple of hours before you sleep rather than instead of a sleep routine.
- Not every night. This is the whole of it. Frequency builds tolerance; the amount does not.
- Keep a record. Across a 50-gram bag you will not remember how many nights, and the number is usually higher than people think.
- Treat needing it to sleep as a signal. If a night without it is difficult, that is worth acting on rather than solving with more.
None of that is a reason not to buy red vein kratom. It is what buying it for evenings looks like when it goes well.
4. Using it
4.1 Brewing it
- Weigh it. Four to five grams is the usual starting range. A level teaspoon can be anywhere between two and four grams depending on the grind, so a 0.1 g scale is worth the few euros.
- Stir it into hot water, not boiling. A mug is enough.
- Add honey. Kratom is genuinely bitter and this is the main reason people abandon loose powder.
- Drink the sediment too, or strain it and accept losing a little.
- Wait a full hour before deciding it has not worked. Effects commonly begin around fifteen minutes in.
4.2 50 grams — the standard size
Fifty grams is roughly ten to twelve sessions at a typical amount — the size for a strain you already know suits you, at a better price per gram than the 25.
- Buy this size once you have tried the strain, not before. The 25-gram bag exists precisely so you do not commit blind.
- Store it properly and it keeps. Airtight, cool, dry and dark. Air, light, heat and damp are what degrade kratom, roughly in that order.
- Do not refrigerate it. Condensation when it comes back out does more harm than room temperature ever would. This catches people out because the advice for truffles is the opposite.
- Decant into a jar if the bag is not resealable, and write the date you opened it on the lid.
- Fifty grams is enough to slide into a routine with. Decide your spacing before it arrives rather than after — frequency, not quantity per session, is what builds tolerance.
5. Cautions
- Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Kratom acts on the body’s opioid receptors. Regular use can lead to tolerance, dependence and withdrawal — this is well documented and is the single most important thing to know before starting.
- Do not combine with alcohol, sedatives, opioid medication or other central nervous system depressants. This combination is where serious harm occurs.
- Do not use if you have heart, lung, liver or kidney problems, high or low blood pressure, or diabetes, without medical advice.
- Do not drive or operate machinery after use.
- Kratom is restricted or banned in several European countries and under active regulatory review elsewhere. Check your local law before ordering.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Falling asleep quickly and sleeping well are different things. Opioid-receptor activity disrupts sleep architecture, which is why people wake up flat after eight hours.
