1. Indian Spirit Kratom — Red Maeng Da, 25g / 50g
Loose Red Maeng da kratom powder from Indian Spirit, in 25-gram and 50-gram bags. The best-known grade name in the trade applied to the calm end of the vein range — probably the single most bought kratom product anywhere.
Red vein is generally the more mature leaf, dried differently from white and green. Maeng da is Thai trade slang for leaf a producer rates highly, and it is not certified by anyone.
Because this is the product people buy most and use most regularly, this page is about what regular use actually looks like — which is a more useful thing than another description of the vein colour.
Legal status: Mitragyna speciosa is legal to sell and possess in the Netherlands. It is banned or controlled in several other countries and remains under regulatory review in the EU and the United States. Check the law where you live before ordering.

3. Regular use
Most people who use kratom regularly did not decide to. It happened gradually, and the pattern is consistent enough to describe:
- It starts occasional and useful. A weekend, a difficult evening, something to take the edge off. It works, which is the point.
- The occasions get closer together. Not deliberately. A bad week, then a busy one, then it is simply what you do on a Thursday.
- The amount creeps up. Tolerance is real and gradual, and the response to it is almost always more rather than a break.
- It becomes a baseline rather than an addition. This is the shift that matters: taking it to feel normal rather than to feel better.
- And stopping becomes uncomfortable. Restlessness, aches, poor sleep, low mood, a runny nose. A documented withdrawal syndrome, time-limited, and genuinely unpleasant.
3.1 Interrupting that
- Count days, not doses. Frequency is the variable. Write down which days, not how much.
- Set a ceiling before you need one. Two or three days a week, decided while you do not care about the answer, is worth more than any rule made later.
- Take a week off periodically, before you have a reason to. If a planned week off is difficult, that is the information you were looking for.
- Treat rising tolerance as a stop sign. Needing more is not a reason to take more.
- Do not buy in bulk while any of this is unclear. A 25-gram bag has a natural stopping point built in; a hundred grams does not.
3.2 And if you are already there
Tapering over a week or two is easier and more likely to work than stopping dead. The discomfort is usually worst in the first few days and eases over a week or so. If that has not worked, a doctor or a drug service is the right conversation — kratom dependence is recognised and treatable, and there is nothing unusual in having it.
None of which is a reason not to buy kratom. It is what buying the most popular kratom product in the world looks like when it goes well.
4. Using it
4.1 Brewing it
- Four to five grams, weighed on a 0.1 g scale. Spoons are not a measure with powder.
- Stir into hot but not boiling water.
- Sweeten it. Honey is traditional; anything strongly flavoured works.
- Drink it all, sediment and all.
- An hour before you reconsider. Fifteen minutes is when it starts, not when it finishes arriving.
4.2 25 grams — the trial size
Twenty-five grams is around five to six sessions at a typical amount, which is exactly the right quantity for answering one question: does this strain suit me?
- Enough to judge it properly. One session tells you very little — how you slept, what you ate and what sort of day it was all colour a single result. Five or six gives you a real impression.
- Small enough to be no loss if it does not. Strain preference is genuinely individual and nobody gets it right first time.
- The sensible way to explore. Buy two or three 25-gram bags of different strains rather than one large bag of a strain you have not tried.
- Keep notes. Strain, amount, time of day, how it went. Across three strains that record is the only thing that will actually tell you which you prefer.
- Then buy the 50-gram bag of the one that worked, which is what the size is there for.
5. Cautions
- Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Kratom acts on the body’s opioid receptors. Regular use can lead to tolerance, dependence and withdrawal — this is well documented and is the single most important thing to know before starting.
- Do not combine with alcohol, sedatives, opioid medication or other central nervous system depressants. This combination is where serious harm occurs.
- Do not use if you have heart, lung, liver or kidney problems, high or low blood pressure, or diabetes, without medical advice.
- Do not drive or operate machinery after use.
- Kratom is restricted or banned in several European countries and under active regulatory review elsewhere. Check your local law before ordering.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
