Kanna is Sceletium tortuosum, a South African succulent whose alkaloid mesembrine acts as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. The mechanism is the same at every concentration and so is the interaction warning in section 4 — concentration changes the quantity, not the pharmacology.
At 20X the amounts involved are small enough that this page is mostly about not getting them wrong.

3. Working small
Twenty times concentration puts the working quantity into a range most people have no intuition for, and that is the whole risk profile of this product:
- Half what you would use of the 10X. Which is itself a tenth of plain material. The compounding is the part people underestimate.
- A 0.01 g scale is mandatory, not advisable. There is no version of using this responsibly that involves estimating.
- Static is a real problem at this scale. Fine extract powder clings to plastic and to fingers. Weigh into a small glass or ceramic container rather than a plastic scoop, and accept that you will lose a little.
- Weigh once, put the gram away. Having a gram of 20X extract on the table while you use it is how a measured amount stops being one.
- And do not convert by arithmetic from another product. A producer’s 20X is not a certified figure and does not necessarily equal two of their 10X, let alone somebody else’s.
3.1 Whether the 20X is worth it

3.2 Taking it
Weighed and held under the tongue, as with any kanna extract. Wait half an hour before considering more. Do not brew it — an extract is made for direct absorption and a tea wastes it.
4. Cautions
- Never combine with antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs), MAO inhibitors, lithium or any other serotonergic medication. Mesembrine is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and stacking two serotonergic agents risks serotonin syndrome — a medical emergency. If you take anything prescribed for mood, anxiety or migraine, ask a pharmacist before considering this.
- Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Do not use with high or low blood pressure, a heart condition, or thyroid or kidney problems.
- Do not combine with other stimulants without knowing your total intake.
- Go carefully with alcohol.
- Do not exceed the stated maximum.
