1. B plus ‘Psilocybe Amplus’ Spores Syringe

A culture ampoule of the B+ strain, with a sterile syringe included. Inside is living mycelium rather than spores, ready to be injected straight into a prepared substrate.

B+ has the widest environmental tolerance in cubensis cultivation and produces large, heavy fruit bodies with thick stems. It keeps developing at temperatures where other strains simply stop.

About the species name on the label: it is not one. The binomial printed on this product appears in no mycological index, and it is a trade convention rather than a description of an organism. We flag it here because a product page is a poor place for invented botany. What you are actually buying is a well-established cultivated strain.

Legal status: The legal position: cultures and spores carry no psilocybin and are legal to sell in the Netherlands. Cultivation of psilocybin mushrooms is another matter and is illegal across much of Europe, including Germany and the UK, with some jurisdictions restricting spores too. Check your own law before ordering.

3. Tolerance

Working from a culture puts more of the process in your hands than a grow kit does, and the strain’s tolerance is what determines how much of that you have to get exactly right.

StrainWhere it gives up
B+Keeps developing down to around 15 °C — slowly, but it continues.
EcuadorianTolerates dips to about 18 °C.
Golden TeacherWants the low twenties; resilient to contamination rather than to cold.
ColombianStalls outright below 20 °C.
ThaiPrefers the warm end entirely.

3.1 What to do with the headroom

  • Do not aim for the floor. Colonisation still wants 24 to 27 °C for a good result. The tolerance is insurance, not a plan.
  • Expect slower rather than failed growth at the bottom. Cold stretches the timeline; it does not kill the culture.
  • The real benefit is the overnight dip. Most flats fall several degrees at night, and this is the strain that shrugs at that.
  • Less equipment, not more. B+ is the strain least likely to need a heat mat, which is one fewer variable to manage on a first culture.

Combined with the large, thick-stemmed fruits it produces, that tolerance is why B+ is a sensible first culture for anybody growing somewhere they cannot properly heat.

4. Inoculating your substrate

  1. A still, clean space is the whole technique. Alcohol on the surfaces and on the outside of the ampoule; hands washed properly; no draught.
  2. Open the syringe packaging without touching the needle.
  3. Fill from the ampoule in one movement and do not set the needle down.
  4. Inject at three or four points spread across the substrate, a small amount at each.
  5. Close it up and leave it in the dark, at temperature, untouched.

4.1 What success and failure look like

  • Success: white growth spreading outward from each injection point within one to two weeks, eventually joining into a solid white block.
  • Failure: any green, grey or blue-green colour. That is mould, the batch is lost, and no amount of cutting it out will save it.
  • Also failure: a sour or ammonia smell, which means bacteria have taken the substrate.
  • Do not open it to check. Every opening is another chance for a contaminant to get in. Look through the container.

Tolerance is insurance, not a plan. Aim for 24 to 27 degrees and be glad B+ forgives you when the heating goes off at night.

  • A living mycelium culture of the B+ strain, with a sterile syringe.
  • The widest environmental tolerance in cubensis cultivation — it keeps going down to around 15 °C.
  • Psilocybe amplus” is a trade name; the species is Psilocybe cubensis.
  • Produces large, heavy fruit bodies with thick, robust stems.
  • Colonises best at 24 to 27 °C. Keeps six months refrigerated.
  • Legal in the Netherlands; cultivation is illegal in many other countries. 18+ only.
  • Order before 16:00 on weekdays for same-day dispatch in plain, unmarked packaging.
Why a culture rather than a spore print or syringe?
A living culture is already past germination, so it colonises faster and gives contamination less of a window. Spore prints and syringes have to germinate first, which is where a lot of attempts fail.
What temperature does it need?
Colonisation generally runs warmer than fruiting. Check the specification table above for this strain and hold it steady, in the dark, until the substrate is fully white.
Why does the species name look unfamiliar?
Because many of these are trade names rather than accepted taxa. We flag that on each page rather than presenting an invented binomial as botany.
Do spores or cultures contain psilocybin?
No. The alkaloids are produced by the mycelium and fruiting bodies, not by the spores. That is why spores occupy a different legal position in most places.
Do I need sterile equipment?
You need clean equipment and a still room. A still-air box helps considerably and is easy to make. Sterilising the substrate is the part you cannot skip.
Is it legal?
Spores and cultures contain no psilocybin and are sold legally in the Netherlands. Cultivating the mushrooms is illegal in many other countries. Check your own jurisdiction.
