1. Sugashrooms — 25 grams
Sugashrooms is McSmart’s 25-gram pack of fresh sclerotia, rated 7 out of 10 on their own scale — medium-high, visual, and sold in a pack noticeably larger than the 15-gram standard.
The label reads “Psilocybe Amanitea”, and McSmart are unusually straightforward about this themselves: the name is branding, not botany. It appears in no mycological index. More importantly, despite the “Amanitea” syllable it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Amanita genus — there is no muscimol and no ibotenic acid here, only psilocybin and psilocin.
That distinction matters more than a naming quibble usually would, and section 3 explains why.
Legal status: Sclerotia are legal to buy, sell and possess in the Netherlands. When Dutch lawmakers banned psilocybin mushrooms in 2008 the prohibition was drawn along a botanical line: it named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia, the underground nutrient reserves of the mycelium, fell outside that list. Almost no other country makes that distinction, and carrying truffles across a border is a separate matter from buying them here. Check your own law.

3. Not an Amanita
The “Amanitea” in the trade name is a pun, and it is a genuinely unfortunate one, because Amanita mushrooms are pharmacologically nothing like this and confusing the two would matter:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is actually in Sugashrooms? | Psilocybin and psilocin. That is it, and it is what every other truffle on this site contains. |
| What is in an Amanita muscaria? | Muscimol and ibotenic acid — entirely different compounds acting on entirely different receptor systems. Not psilocybin. |
| Are they interchangeable? | Not remotely. Different chemistry, different effects, different risk profile, different dose ranges. Nothing you know about one transfers to the other. |
| Is there any Amanita content here? | None. Zero muscimol, zero ibotenic acid. McSmart state this themselves. |
| So why the name? | Marketing. It is a trade name and it does not describe an organism. |
3.1 A 25-gram pack, and what to do with it
The larger pack size is the other thing to plan around. McSmart’s own bands are 5 to 10 grams for a mild experience, 10 to 15 for a strong one, and 15 to 25 — the whole pack — described explicitly as for experienced users only.
- The pack is not a serving, and at 7/10 potency that matters. Twenty-five grams is one heavy session or two to three ordinary ones.
- Weigh what you are taking and reseal the rest before you start.
- Once opened it lasts a few days, not the one to two months an unopened pack manages. Plan accordingly.
- Do not scale up from a 15-gram strain by weight. Different strain, different rating, different pack.
The nutritional figures on the specification list — 110.5 kcal, 16.7 g fibre per 100 g — are there because sclerotia are legally a food product in the Netherlands. They tell you nothing about potency and everything about why fresh truffles are quite filling.
4. Preparation and use
4.1 Getting it right
- Weigh, then put the pack away. Having the rest in front of you is how a measured dose stops being one.
- A light meal a few hours earlier takes the edge off the nausea without slowing onset much.
- Chew it well. If the taste is the obstacle, steep it in hot water for a quarter of an hour instead.
- Wait a full ninety minutes. Onset commonly takes 30 to 60 and sometimes longer.
- Clear the day. Four to six hours of effects and an afterglow beyond that.
4.2 Setting
- A sober sitter, in the room. Not next door, not on the phone — present, sober, and told what you have taken.
- Get down before you start. Sitting or lying. Never standing, never mid-task.
- Strip the room. Nothing burning, nothing breakable, no stairs and no open windows within reach.
- Trip stopper within arm’s reach. The reassurance is worth more than the capsules.
- On its own. No drink, no cannabis, nothing else in the mix.
4.3 Cautions
- Strictly over 18.
- Not while pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Not for anyone whose own or close family history includes psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious psychiatric condition. Psychedelics can precipitate episodes in people predisposed to them, whatever the amount taken.
- Not with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium unless a doctor has said otherwise; the lithium combination has been linked to seizures.
- Nothing alongside it — no alcohol, no cannabis, nothing else.
- No driving, no machinery, for the remainder of the day.
- Early nausea is normal. Eat something light a few hours beforehand.
- Refrigerated, sealed, and well away from children and pets.
Nothing to do with Amanita. No muscimol, no ibotenic acid — just psilocybin and psilocin, same as every other truffle here. The name is a pun.
