1. Mind Control Truffles (Psilocybe McKenaii) — 15 gram
Mind Control is a 15-gram pack of fresh sclerotia sold under a name borrowed from McKennaii, the mushroom strain named for Terence McKenna. It sits at the upper end of this supplier’s range on price.
The name is doing a lot of work and it deserves a response rather than an echo, which is what section 3 is.
A note on the name, because it is worth being straight about. The Latin-style name on this product is a commercial designation rather than an accepted species. More than that: the mushroom strain it borrows its name from does not form sclerotia at all. Only a handful of Psilocybe species produce truffles — principally tampanensis, mexicana and galindoi — so whatever is in this pack is one of those, sold under a name borrowed from the mushroom world. We have asked the supplier to confirm which, and we will put it on this page when they do.
Legal status: Sclerotia are legal to buy, sell and possess in the Netherlands. When Dutch lawmakers banned psilocybin mushrooms in 2008 the prohibition was drawn along a botanical line: it named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia, the underground nutrient reserves of the mycelium, fell outside that list. Almost no other country makes that distinction, and carrying truffles across a border is a separate matter from buying them here. Check your own law.

3. The name
“Mind Control” is a striking name for a psychedelic product and it points in exactly the wrong direction, so it is worth saying what psilocybin actually does:
- It does not give you control. The consistent finding, across both the research literature and decades of user reporting, is a loosening of ordinary cognitive control rather than an increase in it.
- Suggestibility goes up, not down. That is one reason set and setting matter so much, and one reason a sober sitter is worth having — not because anything sinister is going on, but because judgement is genuinely impaired.
- Which makes “control” the opposite of the honest description. What people describe is letting go, and the sessions that go well are usually the ones where they stopped trying to steer.
- And it is why preparation is the whole of the safety. Decisions made sober, in advance, are the only ones you can rely on. That is section 4.
- The strain name it borrows is also worth a note. McKennaii is a Psilocybe cubensis mushroom strain, and cubensis does not produce sclerotia. Whatever is in this pack is a truffle-forming species under a borrowed name.
3.1 What to do with that
Nothing dramatic. Buy it if you want a mid-priced 15-gram pack of fresh sclerotia, prepare properly, and read the name as marketing. But do not buy it expecting an experience you direct, because that is not what psilocybin offers and expecting it is a good way to have a difficult time.
Terence McKenna, for what it is worth, spent a great deal of his career arguing more or less the opposite of what this product name implies.
4. Preparation and use
4.1 Getting it right
- Measure the dose and seal the rest away before anything else happens.
- A small meal two to three hours ahead is the sweet spot between nausea and slow onset.
- Chew properly — these are dense — or make a fifteen-minute tea with water off the boil.
- Then leave it ninety minutes. That single rule prevents most difficult sessions.
- Give the whole day to it, including the tail.
4.2 Setting
- One sober person stays in the room with you. They know what you took and roughly when.
- Sit or lie down before it begins, not after.
- Clear the space first: no flames, no glass, no stairs, nothing sharp within reach.
- Trip stopper nearby, even if it stays unopened. Most do.
- Nothing else taken with it, including alcohol and cannabis.
4.3 Cautions
- 18+ only.
- Avoid entirely during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Avoid entirely if psychosis, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder appear in your history or your family’s. Predisposed people can have episodes precipitated by psychedelics, and no dose is low enough to make that safe.
- Do not combine with antidepressants, MAOIs or lithium without medical advice; the lithium combination is associated with seizures and other serious events.
- Do not take it with alcohol, cannabis or anything else.
- Do not drive or operate machinery afterwards.
- Some nausea early on is usual; eat lightly beforehand rather than fasting.
- Keep refrigerated, sealed, and away from children and pets.
Psilocybin loosens cognitive control rather than increasing it. The sessions that go well are the ones where people stop trying to steer.
- A 15-gram pack of fresh sclerotia sold under the Mind Control name.
- The name is marketing. Psilocybin loosens control and raises suggestibility rather than the reverse.
- Which is exactly why preparation, setting and a sober sitter carry the weight they do.
- Named after McKennaii, a cubensis mushroom strain — and cubensis does not form sclerotia.
- Onset 30 to 60 minutes; around 4 to 6 hours of effects.
- Legal in the Netherlands as sclerotia. Refrigerate, sealed. 18+ only.
- Order before 16:00 on weekdays for same-day dispatch in plain, unmarked packaging.
