1. Dutch Dragon’s Magic Truffles — 15 grams
Dutch Dragon’s began as a King’s Day special — McSmart built it for Koningsdag, orange colouring and all. It was meant to be seasonal. Demand did not fade after the holiday, and it earned a permanent place in the range instead.
What it delivers is genuinely distinctive: a high-energy, socially charged, visually saturated experience. Colours pop and conversation flows. If most strong strains push you inward, this one pushes outward, which is why it turns up at gatherings rather than in a darkened room.
Commercially it is sold as Psilocybe naranja — naranja is Spanish for orange, a nod to the colouring. Taxonomically it is a cultivated variant of Psilocybe tampanensis, the same lineage behind the original Philosopher’s Stones.
Legal status: Sclerotia are legal to buy, sell and possess in the Netherlands. When Dutch lawmakers banned psilocybin mushrooms in 2008 the prohibition was drawn along a botanical line: it named the above-ground fruiting bodies. Sclerotia, the underground nutrient reserves of the mycelium, fell outside that list. Almost no other country makes that distinction, and carrying truffles across a border is a separate matter from buying them here. Check your own law.

3. Social settings
This is the strain people take with other people, so it is worth saying something useful about that rather than just describing the effects. A group changes the experience in specific ways:
- Everyone should be taking the same thing, or nothing. Mixed substances in a group is where evenings become difficult to manage.
- Someone stays sober anyway. A group is not a substitute for a sitter — four affected people cannot look after each other. One person staying out of it is the whole safety plan.
- Agree the setting before, not during. Where you will be, whether you are going outside, and what happens if someone wants to leave. These decisions are difficult to make well later.
- Nobody has to keep up. Different people take different amounts and that is fine. Group pressure around a dose is the commonest way somebody has a bad time.
- Phones and plans away. Four to six hours means the evening is the evening.
3.1 Why a social strain still needs preparation
The energetic, outward-facing character is real, and it makes Dutch Dragon’s more sociable than most strong strains. It does not make it milder. This is a high-strength cultivar from the tampanensis lineage, and a fifteen-gram pack is a full dose rather than a party quantity to share around casually. Weigh individual amounts, and treat the preparation in section 4 as applying to everyone present.
One thing to know about the setting: bright, colourful surroundings genuinely suit this strain. The visual saturation people report has more to work with in a room that has something to look at than in a dark one.
4. Preparation and use
4.1 Getting it right
- Weigh, then put the pack away. Having the rest in front of you is how a measured dose stops being one.
- A light meal a few hours earlier takes the edge off the nausea without slowing onset much.
- Chew it well. If the taste is the obstacle, steep it in hot water for a quarter of an hour instead.
- Wait a full ninety minutes. Onset commonly takes 30 to 60 and sometimes longer.
- Clear the day. Four to six hours of effects and an afterglow beyond that.
4.2 Setting
- Someone stays sober and stays with you. They need to know what you took and roughly how much.
- Be seated or lying down before the first effects. Postural control is not reliable.
- Make the space safe first. No flames, no sharp or breakable objects, no stairs, no open windows.
- Keep a trip stopper to hand. Most are never opened; having one still helps.
- Nothing combined with it. No alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance, prescribed or otherwise.
4.3 Cautions
- You must be 18 or over.
- Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Do not use if psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious psychiatric condition appears in your own history or in your immediate family. Psychedelics can bring on episodes in people already predisposed, and that risk is not reduced by taking less.
- No SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium without medical advice. The lithium combination in particular has been associated with seizures and other serious events.
- Nothing else alongside it — no alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance.
- No driving and no machinery for the remainder of the day.
- Expect some nausea in the first hour. A light meal a few hours earlier helps; an empty stomach makes it worse.
- Store in the fridge, sealed, and out of reach of children and pets.
A group is not a sitter. Four affected people cannot look after each other, and one sober person is the whole safety plan.
