1. Colombian Growkit — 1200 cc

A 1200 cc block of fully colonised rye, vermiculite and perlite carrying Psilocybe cubensis (Colombian) — a strain that has been a fixture of home mycology for decades, known for thick stems and a dependable multi-flush yield.

It is a warmth-loving strain rather than a tolerant one: growth stalls outright below 20 °C, and the consistent results come from holding 23 to 25 °C. If you cannot manage that, the Ecuadorian or B+ kits are the better choice and we would rather say so before you buy.

Every kit ships with the pre-colonised substrate box, a grow bag with a built-in micro air filter, and two paperclips. No spore syringe, no still-air box, no pressure cooker — the sterile laboratory stage is already done.

3. Naming

There is a genuine taxonomic confusion around this strain, and it is worth clearing up because the two things get mixed together constantly in the trade.

3.1 Why the distinction matters to you

• Growing information does not transfer between them. Advice written about a high-altitude wild species tells you nothing useful about a cubensis cultivar in a plastic box.
• Neither do potency claims. Figures quoted for one species should never be applied to the other.
• Trade names in mycology are loose in general. Strain names describe lineage and reputation, not certified genetics, and the same is true of Thai, Cambodian and Maeng-da-style naming everywhere else in this shop.
• What you can rely on is the specification table above: this is a cubensis cultivar with a known temperature range and a known yield profile.

On its own terms the Colombian is a good kit. Thick-stemmed fruits, two to four flushes, 150 to 300 g fresh — provided you can hold it above 20 °C.

4. Setting it up

1. Pick a still, clean room. No fan, no open window, no pets wandering through. Wipe the table and wash your hands to the wrist.
2. Rehydrate. Lid off, cold water to the top of the box, lid back on, twelve hours untouched.
3. Empty it out properly. Hold the lid ajar and pour until nothing more runs out. Damp is right; wet is not.
4. Grow bag. Box upright inside it, top folded over on itself twice, both paperclips on.
5. Somewhere warm and stable, in ordinary room light, never on a windowsill in the sun.
6. A few seconds of air, once a day. Open, waft, close. That is it.

4.1 Harvesting and later flushes

• Watch the membrane under the cap. The moment it starts to separate from the stem is the moment to pick.
• Hold low and turn. A twist at the very base comes away cleanly; a pull brings substrate with it.
• Clear the lot in one go, stragglers included.
• Straight into the next cycle: refill with cold water, twelve hours, drain, rebag.

4.2 If something goes wrong

• Green, blue-green or grey patches mean mould, most often Trichoderma. There is no saving a colonised kit at that point — bag it and dispose of it.
• A sour or ammonia smell means bacterial contamination. Same outcome.
• Wispy white growth on the mushrooms themselves is usually cobweb mould rather than mycelium. Act quickly and increase air exchange.
• Blue bruising where you handle the mushrooms is normal, not contamination. It is oxidation, and it happens to every psilocybin-containing species.

5. Before you use them

5.1 Preparation

• Have a sober sitter present. Someone who stays sober, stays in the room and knows what you have taken.
• Sit or lie down before you start. Do not stand, walk or handle anything.
• Clear the space. No open flames, no stairs, nothing breakable within reach.
• Have a trip stopper to hand. Knowing it is there matters even if you never use it.
• Nothing else alongside it. No alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance.

5.2 Do not use these if

• Not for anyone under 18.
• Not for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Do not use if you or a close family member has a history of psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious mental health condition. Psychedelics can precipitate episodes in people predisposed to them.
• Do not use alongside alcohol, cannabis, SSRIs, MAOIs or any prescription medication without medical advice.
• Do not drive or operate machinery for the rest of the day.

Psilocybe columbiana and the “Colombian” cubensis cultivar are different organisms. Only one of them is in this box.
