Magic Journey is a 25-gram pack of fresh sclerotia — ten grams more than the standard 15-gram pack at a price below most of them, which makes it the cheapest truffle per gram in our range.

That is genuinely good value and it also creates the one thing worth thinking about before you buy: a larger pack with a short shelf life needs a plan, and section 3 is that plan.

A note on the name, because it is worth being straight about. The Latin-style name on this product is a commercial designation rather than an accepted species. More than that: the mushroom strain it borrows its name from does not form sclerotia at all. Only a handful of Psilocybe species produce truffles — principally tampanensis, mexicana and galindoi — so whatever is in this pack is one of those, sold under a name borrowed from the mushroom world. We have asked the supplier to confirm which, and we will put it on this page when they do.

3. Value and waste

A 25-gram pack is only better value than a 15-gram one if you actually use all of it, and fresh sclerotia do not wait. The arithmetic is worth doing before you order:

3.1 Ways to use a large pack well

• Two or three sessions across a few days, which is realistic for one person if you plan them in advance.
• Two people on one occasion, weighed separately, with something left over.
• A full session plus microdoses, though microdosing from a fresh opened pack works less well than a dedicated blister kit, because the material changes as it sits.
• Not: opening it to have a look. The clock starts when the seal breaks, and there is nothing to see.

If none of those fit how you actually use truffles, buy the smaller pack. Value that ends up in the bin is not value, and we would rather sell you the right size than the cheaper gram.

4. Preparation and use

4.1 Getting it right

• A scale that reads tenths of a gram is the one thing worth owning for this.
• Light food two or three hours earlier, then leave it.
• Chew thoroughly, or brew. Off-the-boil water, fifteen minutes, sediment included.
• Ninety minutes before reconsidering. Onset runs 30 to 60 and sometimes longer.
• Clear the day and the evening.

4.2 Setting

• Someone stays sober and stays with you. They need to know what you took and roughly how much.
• Be seated or lying down before the first effects. Postural control is not reliable.
• Make the space safe first. No flames, no sharp or breakable objects, no stairs, no open windows.
• Keep a trip stopper to hand. Most are never opened; having one still helps.
• Nothing combined with it. No alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance, prescribed or otherwise.

4.3 Cautions

• Over 18s only.
• Not in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
• Not for anyone with a personal or close family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious psychiatric condition. Psychedelics can trigger episodes in people who are already predisposed — this is the caution that matters most on the page.
• Not alongside SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium without talking to a doctor. Lithium and psychedelics together have been linked to seizures.
• Nothing else in the mix: no alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance.
• No driving and no machinery for the rest of the day.
• Nausea in the first hour is normal. Something light a few hours beforehand helps.
• Fridge, sealed, away from children and pets.
