Jalisco is a state on Mexico’s Pacific coast, and while the strain name is a trade designation rather than a verified provenance, the association with Mexico is not arbitrary:

• Mesoamerica is where documented psilocybin use begins. Aztec and Mazatec practice with teonanácatl — flesh of the gods — predates every European account by centuries.
• Mexico is where Western science found it. R. Gordon Wasson’s account of a Mazatec ceremony in Oaxaca in 1955, Roger Heim’s identification of the species, and Albert Hofmann’s isolation of psilocybin in 1958 all follow from Mexican material.
• Several sclerotia-forming species are Mexican. Psilocybe mexicana is the obvious one, and much of what is sold as truffles descends from it.
• Which makes a Mexican strain name more plausible than most. It is still a trade designation rather than a certified origin, but the geography is at least the right geography.
• What it does not tell you is potency. Alkaloid content varies more with growing conditions and batch than with any regional label.

4. Preparation and use

4.1 Getting it right

1. Weigh it. A scale that reads to 0.1 g. Fresh sclerotia vary in size and estimating by eye is how people take twice what they meant to.
2. Eat lightly beforehand, two or three hours before. A full stomach slows onset and delays it unpredictably; an empty one makes nausea worse.
3. Chew thoroughly, or make a tea. Sclerotia are dense and tough. Chewing properly matters for absorption; steeping in hot — not boiling — water for 15 minutes is the alternative if the texture is the problem.
4. Wait a full 90 minutes before considering more. Onset is typically 30 to 60 minutes and can be longer. Taking a second dose at the 45-minute mark is the single commonest mistake.
5. Clear the day and the evening. Effects generally run four to six hours, with an afterglow beyond that.

4.2 Setting

• Have a sober sitter present. Someone who stays sober, stays in the room and knows what you have taken.
• Sit or lie down before you start. Do not stand, walk or handle anything.
• Clear the space. No open flames, no stairs, nothing breakable within reach.
• Have a trip stopper to hand. Knowing it is there matters even if you never use it.
• Nothing else alongside it. No alcohol, no cannabis, no other substance.

4.3 Cautions

• Not for anyone under 18.
• Not during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Do not use if you or a close family member has a history of psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or another serious psychiatric condition. Psychedelics can precipitate episodes in people who are predisposed, and this is the caution we would least like you to skip.
• Do not combine with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium without medical advice. Lithium alongside psychedelics is associated with serious adverse events including seizures.
• Do not combine with alcohol, cannabis or any other substance.

• Nausea in the first hour is common. Eat lightly beforehand rather than not at all.
